Tangier Hotels: Reviews of Hotels in Tangier, Morocco
Tangier has dozens of hotels and pensions, so it shouldn’t be much of a problem finding a room.
However, the city does get crowded in July and August when many Moroccan holidays in here or spend a few days en route to and from Europe. During these two months, make sure you book your Hotel in Tangier in advance to ascertain availability.
Our “Tangier Hotels” featured here are grouped in three sections: Sea Front, Ville Nouvelle and Medina. If this is your first time in Tangier or Morocco, the Hotels in Tangier Ville Nouvelle of Sea Front will have probably more familiar feel than those in the Medina.
Tangier Hotels: Sea Front
All the recommended hotels listed here are situated along or just off Tangier’s seafront – Avenue d’Espagne and its continuation Avenue des FAR.
The hotels are a within a walking distance from the port, or you may prefer to take a petit taxi for a small fare.
Hotel Movenpick
Tangier's most deluxe hotel, some 4 kilometres east of town on the road to Malabata. Has excellent amenities and offers decent service, although the price tends to be a sticking point. One of the better choice in Tangier.
Hotel les Almohades
This luxury hotel on the eastern side of the town beach offers all the familiarity of an international chain. It offers high-quality, comfortable and spacious rooms with all modern aminities and also afford some great views over Tangier's bay.
Hotel Solazur
Despite being one of the older beach hotels, Hotel Solazur offers all the comfort and amenities of standard, luxury hotel. Again, the views from the rooms facing Tangier's bay are fantastic, although the rooms themselves are non-descripit despite attempts at modernisation.
Hotel Rif & Spa Tangier
Grand old palace that has sat on Tangier’s beach strip for an age. Fully refurbished in 2006 and now back in business pandering for tour groups and independent travellers. Large and comfortable rooms with adequate amenities. Choice of restaurants serving Moroccan and international cuisine, bars, pool and original spa offering hammam and massage treatments.
Tangier Hotels: Ville Nouvelle Hotels
The recommended hotels here are in the Ville Nouvelle or City Centre, close to Place de France and the central Boulevard Pasteur.
If you’re coming from the port and you’ve got luggage, we recommend a petit taxi as it’s quite a steep climb.
El Minzah Hotel Tangier
Built in 1931, El Minzah is Tangier's classiest and most prestigious hotel. A 5-star offering, this is a beautifully maintained landmark that strongly evokes the days of WWII, when it was the nest of mercenaries and secret agents of all kinds. The hotel has also seen a string of famous guests, including Mick Jagger, Cecil Beaton and Jean Genet.
Chellah Hotel Tangier
Usually promoted to foreign tourists as a package-tour hotel, Hotel Chellah has all the amenities of a three-star hotel: spacious air-conditioned rooms, a small pool and a garden. The hotel has also its own “beach club” bar and restaurant in the sand. However, it is rather soulless. We only recommend staying here for a couple of nights and not as part of an extended stay in Tangier.
Rembrandt Hotel Tangier
A reliable mid-range hotel at the heart of the Tangier's Ville Nouvelle. The rooms here are spacious and stylishly decorated in Moroccan style and the service is quite efficient. Although shabby in parts, the Rambrandt is reliable and a tranquil spot to relax in Tangier.
Dawliz Hotel Tangier
A four-star Moorish complex in the centre of town. Shabby and unexciting décor made up for by unbeatable views over the Medina and the bay of Tangier from the rooms and the many restaurants and bars. Facilities include two swimming pools, billiard room, tennis courts and meeting rooms.
Tanjah Flandria Hotel Tangier
Four-star hotel located in the centre of town with easy access to the port. Beautifully decorated guest rooms well-equipped with modern amenities. Wide selection of international and Moroccan cuisine at two stylish restaurants and a cosy bar. Other facilities include a disco, sauna and swimming pool on the roof.
Tangier: Medina Hotels
The hotels are situated in Tangier’s Medina, or Old City. The Medina is the old quarters of the city and has a distinct feel and character to it.
If you have the confidence for the area, then go for it. We recommend these hotels because they offer a good standard of service, which is not unlike those you find in the Ville Nouvelle or the Sea Front.
To reach the Medina from the Port, you can either take Rue du Portugal to the Grand Socco or the steps from the port entrance to the Grand Mosque and the junction of Rue des Postes / Rue Dar Elbaroud.
Continental Hotel Tangier
Founded in 1865, with Queen Victoria’s son Alfred the first on its official guest list, Hotel Continental is a Tangerine institution. Although its age is showing - and the drinks are vastly overpriced! -, nothing can distract from its charming eccentricity and the unrivalled views over Tangier port from its terrace - captured in the film depicting Paul Bowles' novel The Seltering Sky
Tangier Hotels: Cap Spartel Hotels
The hotels are situated outside Tangier, close to Cap Spartel - the northwest extremity of the Atlantic coast. This is a short drive from the Tangier, some 14 kilometres from the city centre.
If you feel like staying for a few days by the sea, this can be a pleasant base. Outside of July and August, only stray group of visitors make it here.
Le Mirage Hotel Tangier
Set on a rocky promontory overhanging the surf, with amazing views over the Atlantic. One of Tangier's finest and best sited hotels - Opulent, chic and exclusive. Twenty-five spacious bungalow suites tastefully furnished in rich fabrics, luxurious cushions, marble bathrooms and private terraces onto luxurious gardens and swimming pool. Immaculate restaurant overlooking the Ocean and offering some of Tangier's most refined cuisine.
