Review of Le Mirage Hotel Tangier, Morocco

Just south of Cap Spartel and the famous Caves of Hercules is one of Tangier’s finest and best sited hotels: Club Le Mirage Tanger.

Hunkered down on the Atlantic headland and sheltered from the bustle of the city, the Mirage offers a sense of intimacy and secret magic. The resort is 30 minutes from Tangier and set on a rocky promontory overhanging the surf, with some truly amazing views over the Atlantic – Opulent, chic and exclusive.

The resort is a cleverly designed cluster of twenty-five spacious bungalow suites carved into a rocky cliff besides the grotto. Through the very wide picture windows of each bungalow are splendid views of the Atlantic. From the sunny terrace, the well-flowered and manicured lawns sweep down to golden sands of the private beach.

Each air-conditioned suite is bright and tastefully furnished and decorated in rich fabrics, luxurious cushions, marble bathrooms and private terraces onto the luxurious gardens and swimming pool. Amenities are top notch and include a mini-bar, WIFI access, satellite television, direct dialling and room service. The very British “Piano Bar” adds a special charm to the cosy intimacy of the premises.

Non-guests can get a taste of the opulence of the Mirage at the immaculate restaurant overlooking the Ocean. The “a la carte menu” offers a great selection of dishes from succulent specialties to traditional Moroccan cuisine. Sea-food features prominently on the menu, with delicious saffron-flavoured soupe de poisson, curry-spiced langoustine brochettes and the restaurant’s own oven-baked fish in a crust of salt.
