Review of Riad Kniza Marrakech

Riad Kniza is traditional house restored in the style of a luxury boutique Moroccan palace in the Medina of Marrakech. The riad is close to the Bab Doukkala gate, a 15 minute walk to Djemaa el Fna and the medina souks.

The traditional house was restored by one Mr Biskri, a former professional guide and antiques dealer, with an emphasis on style, considerable comfort and efficient service. The owner has sought the help of some of the best craftsmen in the medina to create a real gem of Moorish architecture. There are gorgeous fireplaces, exquisite carved plaster work and a fascinating selection of antiques.

There are seven room and suites located on two floors around two open-air courtyards. Everywhere you look, you will find oriental charm: fireplaces, wooden screens, mahogany furniture, precious brocade fabrics of ruby satins and creamy silver velvets and marble bathrooms. This traditional décor is complemented with high-end modern amenities, including air-conditionning, telephone, satellite TV and wireless internet connection.

The large roof terrace has two shaded areas with lounges and floor cushions and is a popular spot for both breakfast and a candle-lit dinner, with views over the Medina and the Atlas mountains in the background. Facilities include an indoor swimming pool and a traditional hammam.

The professional, yet personable English-speaking staff will happily advise you when planning city visits, be it a restaurant, massage or a hammam visit. They are also on hand to provide babysitting, car rental and airport pickup services.
