Review of Riad Tizwa Fes, Morocco
Riad Tizwa is a stylish and calm sanctuary located in the Batha district of the Medina. The traditional Fassi Dar has been painstakingly restored and stylishly decorated blending the age old traditions of Moroccan architecture with 21st century comfort. It forms part of a trio of riads – along with Riad Tizwa Marrakech and Riad Tizwa Sidi Ifni – that are impressively eco-conscious, offering five-star comforts in traditional surroundings and staffed with English and French speakers for good service.
The design ethos is modern and crisp, using the best fabrics and Moroccan craftwork. The rooms are tastefully decorated in a minimalist vein, striving to offer 5-star luxury comforts while being personal, intimate and true to local traditions. Bedrooms are ensuite, each with an i-pod docking station, wifi access, open log fires and high quality linens with luxury duvets.
Views from the splendid terrace are far and wide, looking down across the roof tops of the Medina and out through to the middle Atlas Mountains. Perfect for alfresco dining with several places to eat, the terrace also has sun lounges and places to sit in the shade. Delicious freshly made breakfasts are served and guests can opt for a two- or three-course traditional evening meal from about £15 per person.
Riad Tizwa Fes strives to be eco-conscious. As well as recycling, using local products made from natural materials and watering plants with rainwater during the winter, there is detailed energy-saving advice in each room and guests are encouraged to use public transport. Riad Tizwa is Morocco’s first officially recognised environmentally friendly riad after scooping the Clef Vert green label for tourism award.
