Review of Riad Damia Fes, Morocco
Nestled within the walls of the old medina, yet accessible by car, Riad Damia is an exquisitely maintained riad decorated in full Moroccan tradition and equipped with a host of modern amenities.
Every nook and cranny of this riad is old world opulence: the textures, colours, sights and sounds are of a Sultan’s palace. The enchanting courtyard is decorated in every surface: mosaics and arabesques, thick Persian carpets and plush deep red velvet furniture with antique wood.
Riad Damia presents a selection of splendidly and elegantly appointed top floor apartment, five suites and two bedrooms. All rooms are tastefully decorated in traditional style and often feature big brass bed frames and antique wooden furniture. The pick of the rooms is Suite El Alia: Over 1,000 square feet, an apartment on its own, with sitting room, dressing room and a large bathroom with a view. This suite is beautifully appointed in the traditional Moroccan style with carved ceilings, intricate stucco work, mosaics, stained glass, a fireplace and a four-poster bed. This thousand and one night decor is perfect for a honeymoon or a romantic vacation.
The riad has its own restaurant, Douiria, where you can savour traditional culinary delights such as tagines and salads made with local products. You can even help with the participation of the food if you wish. The kitchen is a workshop of Moroccan cuisine and owners Farid and Wafa Lahlou welcome guests to join in and learn more about Moroccan and Fez cuisine.
