Essaouira: Orientation, Arrival and Transport
Essaouira is a very easy place to get your bearings about. At the south of the town is the main square, Place Prince Moulay al Hassan, and the fishing harbour and to the north is the Bab Doukkala. Between them run two main parallel streets, Avenue Mohammed Zerktouni and Rue Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdellah.
Arrival in Essaouira
The main bus station, used by both CTM and private buses, is situated in the outskirts of the town some 500 meters north of Bab Doukkala.
From there, you can take a petit taxi (5 dh) or horse-drawn caleche (10dh) into town.
By Grand Taxi
Grand taxis operate from the bus station near Bab Doukkala, in the outskirts of town. Again, either take a petit taxi or a horse-drawn caleche to get into town.
If you are using your own transport, it’s worth using the car park, manned around the clock, near the harbor offices, south of Place Moulay el Hassan.
Essaouira Airport is located 15 kilometers south of town. From here, you can hop into the hourly bus #5 serving town (7dh) or a grand taxi – 40 dh for 6 people.
