El Jadida: Orientation, Arrival and Transport
El Jedida sits on the eastern side of a large promontory jutting out into the Atlantic, with its beach facing up northeast.
The Old Portuguese Medina is a walled conglomeration looking out over the port. Just south of the Old Portuguese Medina, along the seafront, is the Ville Nouvelle. The main square here is Place Mohammed V, home to the post office, banks, hotels and the tourist office.
Arrival in El Jedida
By Bus
The bus station is at the southern end of town, a 15 minute walk to the Medina and most hotels.
CTM buses run frequent services to and from Casablanca. There are also services to Oualidia, Safi and Essaouira.
Private bus companies operate more frequent and cheaper services to the same destinations, as well as Rabat and Marrakech.
By Grand Taxi
Grand taxis to Casablanca and Azemmour depart from the side street next to the bus station. Taxis to Oualidia and Safi leave by the lighthouse, about 1 kilometre from the city centre. You’ll need to take a petit taxi to get there.
By Train
El Jedida train station is 4 kilometres south of town along the Marrakech road (N1). Petit taxis are available just outside the train station to take you to the city centre for around 10 dh.
The train station operates five daily services to and from Casablanca.
Tourist Office in El Jedida
The tourist office is El Jedida is the Syndicat d’Initiative, at 33 Place Mohammed V. There is no phone number listed and no maps or brochure, but the staff can answer all your questions and will even arrange apartment rental.
