Ceuta: Orientation, Arrival and Transport
Given its small size, orientation in Ceuta is pretty straightforward. The city centre is dominated by Plaza de Africa, flanked by the unmistakable giant cathedral. From here, the port and ferry terminal are only a short walking distance to the North West. For the border, walk south along the Avenida Martinez Catena for around 3 kilometres until you reach the border crossing at Fnideq.
Most of the town’s restaurants, hotels and points of interest are located among the main thoroughfare between the peninsula and the mainland.
Ceuta City Transport
There are regular bus services (bus #7) running to the border from Plaza de la Constitucion.
If you arrive by ferry and want to head straight for the border, take a taxi from the rank outside the terminal building or a bus from the stop on Avenida Gonzalez Tablas.
If you have your own vehicle, use the daily car park on Calle Ingenieros or Pablado Marinero.
Transport to mainland Spain
There are several daily high-speed ferries and hydrofoil services to the port of Algeciras in mainland Spain. See our Ceuta to Algeciras Ferries for more information on this connection.
You can also purchase train tickets to different European destinations from Ceuta. Enatcar – the main Spanish coach company – sells bus tickets connecting Ceuta to Spain from its agencies in the ferry terminal.
Transport to Morocco
Next to the Moroccan border control, there is a grand taxi rank where you can hire a grand taxi to take you to Tetouan, the nearest Moroccan town. From there, you can pick onward transport to other destinations.
For other destinations, like Chefchaouen or Tangier, you will be hard-pressed to find transport from here. A better alternative is to hire a grand-taxi to Fnideq (10 minutes away), south of the border, where there are better transport connections to Tangier, Chefchaouen and other destinations.
