Review of Riad Cascades d’Ouzoud , Morocco
Riad Cascades d’Ouzoud is the only upmarket choice for accommodation in this remote mountainous spot, only a few yards from the spectacular falls of the Cascades d’Ouzoud.
The owner, a keen adventurer, has put his knowledge of interior design into a crumbling, single-storey house near the famous plummeting waterfalls and turned it into one of the most tastefully-decorated riads in Morocco. The decoration is colourful and homespun, with a wealth of interior design details.
Despite the grand-style of the riad, it slots harmoniously into the fabric of the small village of Ouzoud: the red pisé walls and crenellated Kasbah roof warmly embrace the local Berber architecture. The bedrooms are cosy and colourful, yet with a simplicity that only adds to their charm.
There are six en-suite rooms, each individually decorated and some with their own fireplace. The central courtyard of the Riad is centered around an orange tree, with various spots to lounge. You can also head to the roof-terrace where you can enjoy breakfast or lunch (Dh 40) with soaring views across the valley.
Riad Cascades d’Ouzoud is also a great base for day walks to the surrounding area or longer, more demanding trips. The enthusiastic owner is happy to arrange trekking, kayaking and even water-skiing on Lake Ben el-Ouidane.
